Meet Our Physicians and Assistants

Physicians

KirstenKirsten Hill Avery, M.D.

Dr. Avery graduated magna cum laude from Yale University and received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College (now known as Weill Medical College) in 1996.

She completed her residency in family medicine at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, which is affiliated with Brown University. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is board certified in Family Practice. Her special interests include women's and children's health. She is from Brooklyn, New York and her husband is a native North Carolinian.

StephanieStephanie Foley, M.D.

Dr. Foley graduated with cum laude honors form Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador, where she was born. There she earned both her medical and undergraduate degree in a combined 6-year program.

She completed her residency training in Family Medicine at Duke University. Dr. Foley’s professional interests are in chronic disease management, population medicine, pediatrics and dermatological procedures. Dr. Foley grew up in Chapel Hill, NC.

Dr. Foley is a native Spanish speaker and conversational in French.

DouglasDouglas I. Hammer, M.D., Dr.P.H.

Dr. Hammer earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Tufts University and his master's and doctorate degrees from Harvard University.

Dr. Hammer interned at the Veterans Administration Center in Los Angeles and was a U.S. Public Health Officer at the University of Southern California Medical School Department of Pediatrics and Infectious Disease. He also served a residency in preventive medicine at the Harvard School of Public Health. He is currently a beginning Spanish student.

JeffreyJeffrey A. Huang, M.D.

Dr. Huang graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his medical degree from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

He completed his residency in family medicine at the Department of Family Medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles. Dr. Huang's special professional interests include sports medicine, women's health, and dermatologic procedures. Dr. Huang is conversational in Medical Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Taiwanese. He is also an avid college basketball fan, and he plays the clarinet.

RebeccaRebecca R. Steffens, M.D.

Dr. Steffens earned her medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine. She graduated summa cum laude from NC State University where she was in the Honors Program.

She completed her residency in family practice at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. She is board certified in Family Practice and has a special interest in women's health care issues. She is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Stacey BauerStacey Bauer, P.A.-C

Ms. Bauer received her undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where she earned her BS in Psychology.

She completed her Physician Assistant training and graduated Cum Laude from the College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia

KarenKaren Booth, P.A.-C

Karen M. Booth received her MMS from the Physician Assistant program at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

She graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Carolina State University, where she received a B.S. in Biological Sciences. Prior to attending PA School, Karen worked in the Rex Hospital OR as a surgical assistant for 3 years.

 

 

KatieKatie Sherron, P.A.-C

Katie Sherron graduated magna cum laude with a BS in biological sciences from NC State University.

She completed her Physician Assistant training and graduated received a masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Methodist University.

StacieStacie Stegall, P.A.-C

Stacie Stegall attended Elon University for her undergraduate studies and completed her Physician Assistant studies at East Carolina University.
